Beehiiv was founded in 2021 by ex-Morning Brew operators (Tyler Denk + co-founders) who built Morning Brew's growth engine and then went and rebuilt it as a product. The result: Beehiiv ships built-in growth tools (referral programs, paid recommendations, audience swaps) that Mailchimp and ConvertKit treat as separate concerns. The free tier goes up to 2,500 subscribers without watermarks, which is generous, and the paid tiers scale linearly. If you're starting a newsletter in 2026 and don't have a stack you love, this is the default recommendation.
